Mom would make deserts once or twice a week when we were kids. She made a number of deserts that would have all of us saving room for during meal time. Mom's Crisp was one of those deserts that I really liked. Sometimes she would have Apples in it, sometimes it was strawberry and rhubarb and today I will sometimes use peaches or other friut. Ingredients:
1 cup brown sugar |
3/4 cup flour |
1/4 cup quick-cooking oatmeal |
1/2 cup butter |
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
5 -7 apples, cored & thinly sliced |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425°F. 2. Mix dry ingredients together. Add butter and cut with a pastry knife until crumbly. 3. Place apples in the bottom of a casserole dish. Add flour and sugar mixture to the top. Firmly press flour and sugar mixture down. 4. Bake in oven for 45 minutes or until bubbly and browned. 5. Serve hot with or without vanilla ice cream. |
