I didn't have molasses for a bread recipe and this worked great. My recipe called for milk so I didn't add the hot water in this recipe. It was easy because I just added the sugar and cream of tartar at the point the recipe called for molasses. I rarely have molasses, and now I wonder why I would ever need to buy that sticky stuff that is so difficult to get out of the jar anyway. Serving size is estimated. Ingredients:
3/4 cup sugar |
1 1/4 teaspoons cream of tartar |
1/4 cup hot water (or other liquid in recipe) |
Directions:
1. Combine sugar and cream of tartar with hot water. If you are making a recipe that calls for a liquid, omit the hot water and just add the sugar and molasses. 2. If there are other spices in the recipe, increase them just a bit to compensate for the loss of molasses flavor. |
