this recipe has some different spices added other than the usual cinnamon and ginger... they have anise and coriander also... this recipe is from a Better Homes and Gardens pamphlet dated 1967... I haven't tried these but they sounded interesting enough to pass on. Read more ... the recipe makes approx, 42 cookies Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening |
1/2 cup sugar |
1 egg |
1/2 cup molasses |
2 1/4 cup sifted flour |
2 teasp. baking soda |
3 teasp.ginger |
1 teasp. cinnamon |
1/2 teasp. cloves |
1/4 teasp. salt |
1/3 cup strong coffee |
2 tbsp. anise seed |
2 teasp. coriander seed, crushed |
Directions:
1. cream together shortening and sugar 2. beat in egg 3. stir in molasses 4. sift together flour, soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. 5. add alternately the flour mixture and then coffee...mix well after each 6. stir in anise and coriander seed. 7. drop teaspoonful onto greased baking sheets 2-inches apart 8. bake at 350 F for 8 to 10 minutes cool on a wire rack 9. makes 3 1/2 dozen 10. ..................................................... 11. Vanilla glaze 12. combine 2 cup powdered sugar, 1 teasp. vanilla and enough milk to make a spreading consistency... 13. top each coolie with frosting and a walnut half |
