This an old family recipe... my Dad's favorite. Baking time is approximate so check at lesser time. Ingredients:
1 cup sugar |
1 cup crisco |
1 cup molasses |
1 egg |
1 teaspoon ginger |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
2 teaspoons baking soda |
1/2 cup hot water |
4 1/2 cups flour |
Directions:
1. Mix all ingredients and chill over night. If you need to chill it less, make sure it is cold all the way through. 2. Roll out dough and use cookie cutters to make shapes. I have made it by forming balls and flattening them but you need to flatten them with a glass or plate. They expand very little during baking and need to be at least a 1/4 inch thick. You can roll out remaining dough as many times as it takes to use it all. 3. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. I would check them at 8 minutes if you have a hot oven. |
