My great grandmother used to make these cookies all the time. When she passed in 1996, no one else made them, until recently when I found her recipe box. Hope you guys enjoy them as much as I do. Note: When I made them, I didn't bother counting to see how many cookies came from one full batch, I will however estimate. Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups shortening |
2 cups sugar |
1/2 cup dark molasses |
2 eggs |
4 teaspoons baking soda |
1 teaspoon clove |
1 teaspoon ginger |
2 teaspoons cinnamon |
1 teaspoon salt |
4 cups flour |
Directions:
1. Cream sugar, and shortening in a bowl. Add eggs and molasses. 2. In another bowl mix dry ingredients together and mix with the wet ingredients. Refrigerate overnight. 3. Pre-heat oven to 350. 4. Roll into 2 inch balls and roll into sugar. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes. Cool on wire rack. |
