This is my oldest daughter's favorite birthday cake. It's not too chocolate, but just right. Ingredients:
2 cups flour |
1 3/4 cups sugar |
2 eggs |
1/2 cup cocoa |
1/2 cup boiling water |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/2 cup shortening |
1 cup hot coffee |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
Directions:
1. Sift flour and salt. 2. Cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. 3. Add eggs 1 at a time. 4. Mix cocoa with hot coffee. 5. Add to creamed mixture. 6. Gradually add dry ingredients. 7. Dissolve baking soda in boiling water and add to batter; blend well. 8. Pour into greased and floured layer cake pans. 9. Bake at 375°F for 30-35 minutes. |
