Because these are child-size portions, adults may choose to eat two sandwiches. Ingredients:
1 1/2 pounds extra-lean ground beef |
vegetable cooking spray |
1 cup finely chopped onion |
1/2 cup finely chopped green bell pepper |
3 (8-oz.) cans basil, garlic, and oregano tomato sauce |
1/4 cup cider vinegar |
1 tablespoon brown sugar |
2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce |
1 teaspoon chili powder |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1 (13.9-oz.) package dinner rolls, toasted |
Directions:
1. Cook ground beef in a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray over medium-high heat 10 minutes or until beef crumbles and is no longer pink. Remove meat from skillet, and drain well. 2. Sauté onion and bell pepper in skillet 5 minutes or until tender. Return meat to skillet; stir in tomato sauce and next 5 ingredients. Bring mixture to a boil; cover, reduce heat, and simmer, stirring occasionally, 30 minutes. Spoon mixture evenly into toasted dinner rolls, and serve immediately. 3. Note: For testing purposes only, we used Pepperidge Farm Soft Dinner Rolls Country Style. They're about the size of a baseball. |
