Not sure where I got this recipe, but I've made it off and on for years for a simple and good appetizer. Ingredients:
1/2 lb smoked sausage |
1 loaf miniature party rye rounds |
4 tablespoons butter |
1 cup thousand island dressing |
16 ounces sauerkraut |
10 slices swiss cheese |
Directions:
1. Slice sausage into 1/4 inch pieces. 2. Drain the sauerkraut. 3. Cut cheese slices into 1/2-inch x 2-1/2-inch strips. 4. Melt butter in small skillet. 5. Brush rye bread with butter on both sides. 6. Place on baking sheet. 7. Toast at 400F for 5 minutes. Turn. 8. Remove from oven and build Rubens ending with cris- crossed cheese slices on top. 9. Bake for 5-10 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly. |
