This is a different kind of cake. For all the chocolate lovers. Ingredients:
6 (1 11/16-ounce) chocolate-covered malt-carmel candy bars |
1/2 cup butter or margarine |
2 cups sugar |
1 cup shortening |
4 eggs |
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 1/2 cups buttermilk |
1/2 teaspoon soda |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
chocolate-marshmallow frosting |
Directions:
1. Combine candy bars and butter in a heavy saucepan; place over low heat until melted, stirring constantly. 2. Combine sugar and shortening; beat until creamy. 3. Add eggs, and continue beating until light and fluffy. 4. Combine flour and salt; combine buttermilk and soda. 5. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk mixture, beating well after each addition. 6. Stir in vanilla and candy bar mixture. 7. Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 9-inch cakepans. 8. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done. 9. When layers are completely cool, frost with Chocolate-Marshmallow Frosting. 10. Yield: one 9-inch layer cake. 11. ==================================================== 12. Chocolate-Marshmallow Frosting: 13. 2 cups sugar 14. 1 (13-ounce) can evaporated milk 15. 1/2 cup butter or margarine 16. 1 (6-ounce) package semisweet chocolate pieces 17. 1 cup marshmallow cream 18. Combine sugar, milk, and butter in a heavy saucepan; cook over medium heat until a small amount dropped in cold water forms a soft ball. 19. Remove from heat, and add chocolate pieces and marshmallow cream; stir until melted. 20. Yield: enough for one 3-lawer cake. |
