I got this recipe in a church cookbook years ago and have been making them ever since. They are extremely tender with a flavor that no store bought biscuit could ever come up with. Makes breakfast or any meal special. (And they are so easy too) Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour |
1/4 cup sugar |
4 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar |
3/4 teaspoon salt |
1/2 cup shortening |
1 egg, beaten |
1 1/8 cups milk |
Directions:
1. Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. 2. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. 3. Add egg and milk;mix until dough forms a ball. 4. Turn dough out on a lightly floured surface and knead 10- 12 times, only. 5. Roll out to 3/4 inch, cut with floured cutter. 6. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. 7. Bake at 475 degrees for 12- 15 minutes or until light brown. |
