The word HALWA in Arabic means sweet . It is a sweet confection with gritty dry chewy texture , very popular in Middle east and Asia . Go for it , if you have a sweet tooth . The texture itself will tease you . Ingredients:
100 g halwa - chopped coarsely and |
20 g halwa - chopped finely |
1 c raw sugar |
3 tbsp brown sugar |
250 g soft butter |
lemon and orange zest |
4 l egg yolks |
1 c semolina |
1 c wheat / atta flour |
1 tsp cinnamon |
1/2 tsp ground cloves |
4 tsp baking pwd |
150 ml milk |
500 g walnuts |
3 tbsp ground almonds |
1 c sugar |
1 c water |
1 tbsp orange food colour water |
icing sugar ( optional ) |
Directions:
1. Pre heat oven at 190 deg C . 2. Coat the cake tin with the 20 g fine halwa . 3. Beat the sugar , soft butter and the zest until thick and pale . 4. Add the egg yolks in and beat well . 5. ..... 6. In a separate bowl mix all the dry ing. 7. Add to the butter with milk 8. Now add in the nuts and halwa 9. Mix well . 10. Bake 50 mins . 11. Cool for 10 mins . 12. .................... 13. Boil the sugar and water for 5 mins 14. Add the orange colour in . 15. Pour over cake . 16. Sprinkle icing sugar on top ( optional ) . |
