Stumbled across this method of seasoning poached eggs accidentally. It's become a regular morning favorite. Best of all, it doesn't get any easier than this. Ingredients:
2 fresh eggs |
1 tsp balsamic vinegar |
1 hamburger bun |
butter or margarine |
Directions:
1. I use a plastic, microwave egg poacher, but a round-bottom tea cup or 6 oz custard container works equally well. 2. Split the hamburger bun and put it in your toaster to begin toasting. The eggs will be done by the time it pops. 3. Place 1 tsp balsamic vinegar into each cup. Break an egg in on top of the vinegar base. Place in the center of the microwave and heat on high for 20 seconds. Let the eggs stand for a few seconds, then heat again for 18 seconds. Let stand, then heat a final time for 16 seconds. The key here is to halt the cooking process and prevent the yolk from rupturing or exploding. You might try puncturing the yolk with a toothpick if this happens to you. The actual cooking times will vary with the power of your particular microwave. These times were determined by trial-and-error for mine. 4. In addition to providing a tart flavoring to the eggs, the vinegar helps to stablize the white and speed the cooking process. 5. Remove the poacher and using a spoon, lay each egg over one half piece of toasted, buttered hamburger bun. (I prefer hamburger buns because of their sweet taste) 6. OK, now that you've gotten down the basics of microwave poaching, get creative. This is only the beginning.... |
