I've tried a bunch of different recipes for this farm favourite, and for some reason they have either milk, or butter, or buttermilk, which are all things that'll go bad out in the sun all morning, making it impossible to be a historic recipe. So like most of my recipes I simplified the hoe cakes and came up with this. Ingredients:
1 cup cornmeal |
1 cup all-purpose flour |
1 tablespoon baking powder |
4 tablespoons sugar |
1 teaspoon salt |
3/4 cup water |
Directions:
1. Mix dry ingredients together in a large bowl. 2. add water. 3. cook like pancakes. |
