Meredith Vieira on yesterdays Today show , making her mother's apple pie, competing with other guest Martha Stewart. You'll have to check out the Today show web site to see readers poll . She said she uses a ready made Flako pie crust. Read more . Ingredients:
apples - any combination but granny smith and macs are preferred , amount not specified, i would assume the amt for average pie ( 6 to 8 apples ) |
egg whites |
1/2 c sugar |
1 tsp. apple pie spice (or allspice, cinnamon, mace) |
butter |
egg yolks |
prepared pie crust |
Directions:
1. Prepare pie crust, put in pie plate.
2. Brush crust with a beaten egg white and set aside.
3. Peel and cut up apples in chunks and fill up crust.
4. Put sugar, and apple pie spice on top of apples.
5. Put one pat of butter, cut into 4 pieces, on
6. top of apples
7. Put crust on top.
8. Take egg yokes with a little bit of milk & brush on top.
9. Cut slits in crust.
10. Bake 10 min at 400 degrees and 30 minutes at 350.
11. Serve.
