The original of this recipe came from the June/July 2009 issue of Taste of the South magazine. Ingredients:
1 (24 ounce) bottle ketchup |
1 1/2 cups water |
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar |
1/3 cup brown sugar, packed |
1/3 cup granulated sugar |
2 teaspoons black pepper, freshly ground |
2 teaspoons instant minced onion |
2 teaspoons dry mustard |
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice |
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce |
Directions:
1. In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, water, vinegar, both sugars, pepper, onion & mustard. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. 2. Reduce heat to low & simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. 3. Add lemon juice & Worcestershire sauce, then simmer for another 30 minutes. 4. Remove from heat & let it cool, before pouring into an airtight container & refrigerate not longer than 3 weeks. |
