From an old 17 Magazine.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter
1 garlic clove, minced
1 loaf oval rye bread or 1 loaf italian bread, unsliced
8 slices boiled ham (thin slices)
8 slices swiss cheese (thin slices)
Directions:
1. Melt butter is a small saucepan, and stir in garlic.
2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

4. Wrap loaf in aluminum foil; bake for 40 minutes, or until heated through. Open foil around loaf; turn oven to broil. Broil loaf for 3 to 5 minutes, until cheese bubbles.
5. To serve, slice through unfilled cuts (serve while warm).
