From an old 17 Magazine. Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter |
1 garlic clove, minced |
1 loaf oval rye bread or 1 loaf italian bread, unsliced |
8 slices boiled ham (thin slices) |
8 slices swiss cheese (thin slices) |
Directions:
1. Melt butter is a small saucepan, and stir in garlic. 2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. 3. Cut bread crosswise into 8 sections (seven cuts), not quite through to bottom crust. With a pastry brush, spread garlic butter on both sides of bread at each cut. Tuck 2 slices each of ham and cheese into every other cut in bread. 4. Wrap loaf in aluminum foil; bake for 40 minutes, or until heated through. Open foil around loaf; turn oven to broil. Broil loaf for 3 to 5 minutes, until cheese bubbles. 5. To serve, slice through unfilled cuts (serve while warm). |
