Megaddara (Lentil Lebanese Dish) |

This dish is perfect for the poor, but loved by the rich as well. Ingredients:
2 cups brown lentils |
1/3 cup rice |
1 large onion, chopped |
1/2 cup olive oil |
6 -7 cups cold water or 6 -7 cups broth |
1 package onion soup mix |
1 tablespoon butter |
salt |
Directions:
1. Wash lentils and rice. 2. In a pan, saute onion in oil until it is a golden brown. 3. Add the lentils, rice, salt, butter, onion, soup, and water. 4. Bring to a boil and then turn to low heat and simmer for 1-2 hours, making sure to add more water as it absorbs. 5. Lentils will be soft when ready (same consistency as refried beans). |
