From my collection of handwritten recipes 1970-1984. Ingredients:
1/2 cup milk |
1/3 cup grape nuts cereal |
1 tablespoon soy sauce |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1 dash pepper |
1 lb ground beef |
1 (1 ounce) package mushroom gravy mix |
1 tablespoon cornstarch |
3/4 cup dry red wine |
1 cup water |
1/2 onion, chopped |
1 medium green pepper, cut in strips |
1 medium tomato, cut in wedges |
hot cooked rice |
Directions:
1. In a mixing bowl, combine milk, grape nuts, soy sauce, salt and pepper. Let stand 10 minutes. Add ground beef and mix well. Shape into 15 meatballs. In a 10 inch skillet, brown meatballs on all sides. Remove to a platter; drain off excess fat from pan. In small bowl, combine gravy mix, cornstarch, wine and water. Pour mixture into skillet; cook and stir until mixture bubbles. Add meatballs and chopped onion. Simmer, covered, 15 minutes. Add green pepper; cover and cook 10 minutes longer. Add tomato and heat through. Serve over hot cooked rice. |
