I found this while desperately searching for something that all my kids would eat without complaint. I found this in a 1982 fundraiser cookbook and decided to give it a try. This is not gourmet cooking by any means but it was a yummy change with a presentation that made the kids more willing to try it. Ingredients:
1/3 cup chopped celery |
1/4 cup chopped onion |
2 tablespoons green peppers |
1 lb ground beef |
3/4 teaspoon salt |
1/8 teaspoon black pepper |
2 tablespoons flour |
3/4 cup water |
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce |
2 cups flour (or more) |
1/2 cup shortening |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
3/4 cup milk |
2 cups tomato juice |
8 ounces tomato sauce |
1 tablespoon minced onion |
2 tablespoons green peppers |
1/8 teaspoon black pepper |
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder |
1/8 teaspoon thyme |
1 tablespoon sugar |
1 teaspoon parsley flakes |
1 bay leaf |
1 teaspoon seasoning salt |
2 whole cloves |
2 tablespoons butter |
Directions:
1. Saute celery, onion, green pepper, ground beef until beef is browned. 2. Season with salt and pepper. 3. Sprinkle in 2 T flour. 4. Stir for about 1 minute. 5.
