A Greek Appetizer that can be frozen. I made these for a Greek themed dinner party. I think I liked them better reheated from frozen. The original recipe came from The Complete Book of Greek Cooking at the local library, but I tweaked it a little. Ingredients:
2 lbs hamburger |
1/2 cup red wine |
1 cup raisins |
1/2 cup pine nuts |
2 teaspoons cinnamon |
1 teaspoon nutmeg |
butter, for phyllo dough |
1 lb phyllo dough |
Directions:
1. Saute hamburger until brown. 2. Add wine, raisins, pine nuts, and spices. 3. Stir until liquid is absorbed. 4. Cool. 5. Cut phyllo into 3 strips. 6. Butter the phyllo. 7. Place 1 tbsp of filling at the base. 8. Tuck each side in about 1/2 inch. 9. Roll up. 10. It should look like a sleeping bag. 11. Brush the top with butter. 12. They can be frozen at this point. 13. Place seam side down on a cookie sheet. 14. Bake at 375* until golden (25 minutes). 15. 45 minutes if frozen. |
