These bars were baked for our family when I was growing up. I found the original recipe while looking through one of my local church cookbooks. The bars are a real treat and I think I love them so much because of the oatmeal and raisins! Ingredients:
1 cup raisins |
1 cup water |
2 tablespoons flour |
1/2 cup sugar |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla |
1 cup butter |
1 1/2 cups brown sugar |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 1/2 cups flour |
1 1/2 cups oatmeal |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
1 pinch salt |
Directions:
1. Combine first 5 ingredients and boil until thick. 2. Cream butter and brown sugar and add remaining ingredients. 3. Put 1/2 of creamed mixture in 8-in. square pan, cover with raisin filling and top with remaining creamed mixture. 4. Bake at 325 for for 30 minutes. Cut when cool. |
