Best matrimonial cake I've ever tasted. Ingredients:
1 1/4 cup flour |
3/4 cup butter |
1 1/4 cup ground rolled oats |
1 cup brown sugar |
1 tsp. soda |
filling |
1 cup brown sugar |
2 cups chopped pitted dates |
1 cup water |
juice of 1/2 lemon |
Directions:
1. Mix dry ingredients and cut in butter as you would for pastry. Cook the filling until it is thick. Spread half the first mixture into a greased 8 x 8 cake pan. Cover this layer with filling and top with remaining crumb mixture. Bake at 300 F for about 1 hour. When cool cut into squares. Freezes well. |
