This is an almond scented sweet bread. Ingredients:
1/4 cup sugar |
1/2 cup milk |
1.5 (1/3 ounce) packages dry yeast |
3 cups flour |
4 tablespoons butter |
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
2 cups ground almonds |
2 egg whites |
1/4 cup sugar |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla |
Directions:
1. For dough, stir 1 tsp sugar with milk adn sprinkle with yeast. 2. Let sit 5 minutes until frothy. 3. Sift flour, sugar and salt. 4. Add melted butter and combine with flour. 5. Knead on a floured surface cover and let rise for 40 minutes. 6. Mix together almonds, egg white, sugar and vanilla. 7. Roll out dough into a 18x12-inch rectangle, spread with filling. 8. Roll up lengthwise and cut into 2 equal lengths. 9. Twist together. 10. Place on baking sheet and let rise 15 minutes. 11. Bake at 400°F degrees for 35 minutes until golden brown. 12. Serve warm. |
