From Buddy Valastro. Freezable. Ingredients:
2 (28 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes |
2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans diced tomatoes with juice |
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil |
2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced |
1 teaspoon kosher salt |
fresh ground black pepper |
sugar (about 4 teaspoons) |
1 sprig fresh basil |
1/2 cup fresh basil leaf, torn into small pieces |
Directions:
1. In a 3-4 quart. pot, heat the oil and garlic together. When garlic becomes pale gold and fragrant add the tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar and basil sprig. Stir well to combine and bring sauce to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Simmer sauce, 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally until sauce has thickened and is richly flavored. Remove from heat, check for seasoning and stir in the torn basil leaves. |
