This is a really great sratch recipe for spagetti or pizza sauce to make ahead of time I put it in the crock pot on low to simmer. If you look at the label of most spagetti sauce you buy in a store the second or third ingredient is corn syrup. After this we don't ever buy red sauce. I make this in large batches frequently and it freezes very well.
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
3 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 large tomato, diced
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon basil
1 teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon dill weed
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Directions:
1. Brown burger with all spices except bay leaf. Add all ingredients in large saucepan bring to boil then turn down heat to simmer for at least 1 1/2 hours. It will be ready when the color changes from a tomato red to the more orange red color of spagetti sauce. In crock pot add all ingredients on low simmer for 6-8 hours or 3-4 hours on high. use for spagetti, pizza, lasgana, or any other marinara sauce.
