I have not tried this recipe. I'm posting this recipe for safe keeping. I found this recipe in From Babas' Kitchen To Ours. I have used this recipe for the wedding cakes for my two daughters. Ingredients:
3 lbs raisins |
1 lb cherries |
1 lb dates |
4 rings candied pineapple |
1/2 lb chopped mixed peel |
1 cup liquid honey |
5 cups flour |
2 teaspoons salt |
2 teaspoons baking soda |
3 teaspoons cinnamon |
2 teaspoons flavoring |
1 teaspoon clove |
2 teaspoons allspice |
2 teaspoons mace |
2 teaspoons ginger |
1 lb butter |
2 cups sugar |
12 eggs |
1 cup jelly, any flavor |
1 lb walnuts |
Directions:
1. Wash raisins. Pour boiling water over them and let stand for a few minutes. Drain throughly and dry between towels. Chop half the cherries. Combine fruit and add honey. Mix well and let stand overnight. Sift flour, salt, soda and spices. 2. Cream butter. Add sugar gradually, then add one egg at a time, beating well after each one. Break up jelly and add. Add flour mixture, nuts, fruit and flavoring. Bake in 300 oven. 3. Makes a 12 pound cake. |
