I picked up this recipe when visiting a friend in Georgia many years ago. Ingredients:
2 1/4 cups self-rising cornmeal |
3 tablespoons self-rising flour |
1 tablespoon onion, finely chopped |
1 egg |
1 cup milk or 1 cup water |
salt (to taste, no salt in original recipe) |
Directions:
1. Combine first three ingredients. 2. Add egg. 3. Gradually beat in milk. 4. Drop by spoonful into hot fat. 5. Remove when golden brown (15-20 minutes). Drain on paper towels. (Original recipe calls for 20 minutes.). |
