What an awesome recipe for homemade maraschino cherries. I love these and am always proud to say I made those when I serve them in cakes and drinks. Enjoy Ingredients:
5 pounds sweet cherries pitted |
4 pounds sugar |
2 teaspoons red food coloring |
4 teaspoons almond extract |
1 tablespoons lemon juice |
Directions:
1. Put cherries and sugar into a large saucepan and stir gently until juices begin to form. 2. Cook slowly until thick then remove from heat and add food coloring, extract and lemon juice. 3. Cook 15 minutes longer then pack hot in sterilized jars. 4. Seal with sterilized lids and rings then process in boiling water bath 20 minutes. 5. Cool then test the seal and store in a cool dark place to preserve the rich color. |
