Adapted from a recipe by Lady2416 . A cheaper, less chemical-laden, homemade substitute for storebought maple syrup. Still not as good as the real thing, but better than the phony stuff. Don't use light brown sugar; it won't give the right flavor or color. Ingredients:
1 cup white sugar |
1 cup packed dark brown sugar |
1 cup boiling water |
1/4 cup corn syrup |
3/4 teaspoon maple extract |
1/4 teaspoon butter flavor extract |
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract |
Directions:
1. In a saucepan, combine sugars, water and corn syrup. Place over medium heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes. 2. Remove from heat and stir in extracts. Transfer to a glass jar and store in refrigerator. Reheat before using. |
