Maple-Oatmeal Drops

Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup pure maple syrup
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°.
2. Lightly grease a cookie sheet; set aside.
3. In a large mixing bowl beat shortening with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds.
4. Beat in half of the flour.
5. Add maple syrup, egg, milk, baking powder, and salt.
6. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally.
7. Stir in remaining flour and the oats.
8. Stir in raisins and nuts (dough will be soft).
9. Drop dough by heaping teaspoons 2 inches apart onto the prepared cookie sheet.
10. Bake about 13 minutes or until edges are light brown.
11. Let stand for 1 minute on cookie sheet.
12. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool.
13. Store-layer cookies between waxed paper in an airtight container; cover.
14. Store at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
