Nice hot syrup for breakfast! We use it on corn pancakes, biscuits, toast, homemade waffles, sourdough pancakes and lots of other breakfast dishes.
Ingredients:
4 cups sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tbls corn syrup (optional)
2 cups water
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp maple flavor
1 tsp butter flavor (optional)
Directions:
1. In a medium-sized pot combine the sugars, corn syrup, and water. (We often leave the corn syrup out with no negative effects.)
2. Place on burner with high heat. Stir until the sugars are dissolved. At this point, the mixture will be boiling. (This takes approximately 5 minutes. You don't need to stir constantly, but do stir occasionally. My kids love to do this step for me.)
3. Cover the pot and reduce heat. Boil gently for 10 minutes. DO NOT STIR.
4. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
5. Add the vanilla and maple flavorings. (Butter flavoring, too, if you want.) Stir only until mixed.
6. Makes 1 quart.
