These biscuits have been made by the women in my family for a long time. We use the maple syrup we boil each sugaring season from the trees on our land. Ingredients:
2 cups king arthur unbleached all-purpose flour |
1 tablespoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/4 cup shortening |
3/4 cup milk |
1-1/2 cups maple syrup |
Directions:
1. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk; stir just until moistened. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; roll to 1/2-in. thickness. Cut with a 2-in biscuit cutter. Pour syrup into an 11-in. x 7-in. baking dish. Place biscuit on top of syrup. Bake at 450° for 12-15 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown. Yield: 10-12 servings. |
