An old backpacking trick for those that want to keep a small packet of cereal around and have a hankering for cereal but don't want to lug a small and pricey cereal box and worry about finding milk somewhere. Ingredients:
1 sandwich size zip lock bag |
your favorite cold cereal to 1/2 the nag or whatever you desire the amount to be |
1/4 - 1/2 level tsp instant non fat dry milk adjust to consistency you want |
1/4 tsp dry non dairy creamer (to give the non fat dry milk body if you want) note you may want to run the powdered milk and non dairy creamer through a food processor first to break the non daitry creamer down a bit smaller or use an inexpensive non dairy creamer that breaks down easily in cold liquid) |
sugar or splenda to taste (whatever you put on your cold cereal) |
the addition of dried fruits and nuts, cinnamon etc is a plus |
1 plastic spoon |
water from a tap or your water bottle you probably carry with you or from a water fountain on the run.. |
Directions:
1. Put the cereal in the bag 2. add the powdered mix (non fat dry mik and non dairy creamer if used) 3. add the sugar or splenda to the bag 4. dried fruit, marshmallows, nuts etc. if you want in the bag 5. place the spoon in the bag 6. zip it shut 7. breakfast in a bag 8. To prepare: 9. remove the spoon 10. add cold water 11. zip the bag closed 12. shake like heck, viola! Cereal and milk 13. unzip and eat. right from the bag 14. That's it 15. When finished place the spoon in the bag and throw the bag out 16. no clean up and no muss. 17. This works really well with crunchy cereals, oat cereals etc but also works with corn flakes and rice krispies etc. 18. (If you are a brave soul you can use a tie bag instead of a zip lock bag as long as you hold it closed really really tight when shaking. |
