My sisterinlaw stunned me with how simple it is to make this elegant dessert - the magic - how DID you get that filling IN there? Ingredients:
1/2 c. shortening (here we differ - she uses crisco, i prefer butter - it doesn't cook or taste any different tho |
1 c. water |
4 large eggs |
1 c flour |
pinch of salt |
filling |
canned whipped cream or |
prepared instant vanilla pudding |
topping |
prepared chocolate frosting |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees 2. Combine shortening and water in a medium sauce pan. 3. Bring to a boil 4. Sift in flour and salt (hint: if you don't own a sifter, use a fine sieve) 5. Add quickly to boiling water, stir until it leaves the side of the pan 6. Remove from heat 7. Add 1 egg at a time, beating in thoroughly before adding next egg. 8. Drop by tablespoonful onto greased cookie sheet 9. Bake for 10 minutes 10. Decrease heat to 400 degrees. 11. Cook another 25 min or until golden and airy 12. Cool on racks 13. Once cooled, choose to either: 14. Shove the point of the whipping cream into one end and fill 15. Cut in half and fill with pudding 16. Frost or leave plain 17. Eat one or two before serving so you at least get to taste them! |
