This recipe appears in the recipe book titled 'Angels and Friends II' from Youngstown, Ohio. It's revenue benefits the Easter Seals Society in that city. I have served this many times to company with great reviews!! Ingredients:
4 eggs |
2/3 cup orange juice |
1/3 cup milk |
1/4 cup sugar |
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract |
8 ounces loaf italian bread, cut in 1 inch slices |
1/3 cup butter, melted |
1/2 cup macadamia nuts, chopped |
Directions:
1. Whisk eggs, juice, milk, sugar, nutmeg and vanilla together until well blended. Place bread in a single layer in a tight fitting casserole. Pour the milk mixture over the bread. cover and refrigerate overnight, turning the bread once. 2. Preheat the oven to 400°F 3. Pour the melted butter on a jelly roll pan and arrange the soaked bread slices in a single layer on the pan. Sprinkle with the macadamia nuts and bake until golden for 20-25 minutes. Serve with warm maple syrup and butter. 4. Preparation time does not include overnight fridge time. |
