Lu's Rum or Bourbon Balls

These are great make ahead rum balls. Quick and easy to make and taste better after they've aged a bit so making them ahead of time is a good idea. I make them a few weeks before Christmas and add them to my cookie plates.
Ingredients:
3 cups vanilla wafers, crushed
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
2 tablespoons light karo syrup (may require more)
1/4 cup rum or 1/4 cup bourbon
1 cup nuts (optional)
powdered sugar, enough to coat
Directions:
1. Sift cocoa and sugar together.
2. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well, using enough Karo to make it workable.
3. Shape into balls an inch or so in diameter.
4. Roll in powedered sugar.
5. Store in a tin with wax paper between layers.
