Filipino finger food at its finest. Think egg rolls, but better. Try to get actual lumpia wrappers if you can. I used spring roll wrappers below because it was what CC would recognize. Ingredients:
3 pounds ground beef |
1 1/2 onion, chopped |
1/3 cup soy sauce |
1 1/2 tablespoons black pepper |
2 3/4 tablespoons garlic powder |
1 tablespoon salt |
16 ounce spring roll wrappers (one package usually has 30) |
3/20 quarts oil for frying (use 1 1/2 quarts to fry the first amount is only for calorie counting purposes) |
Directions:
1. In a large bowl using your hands, mix ground beef and onion. 2. Using your hands, gradually blend in the soy sauce, black pepper, garlic powder and salt until all ingredients are evenly distributed. 3. Cut the spring roll wrappers into quarters. 4. Lay out a few wrappers at a time on a flat surface, and place about 2 teaspoons of the filling in a line down the center of the wrapper. 5. Make sure the filling is no thicker than your thumb, or the wrapper will cook faster than the meat. 6. Take the bottom and top edges of the wrapper and fold them towards the center. 7. Take the left and right sides, and fold them towards the center. 8. Moisten the last edge of the wrapper to seal. 9. Repeat as necessary. 10. Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or heavy skillet to 375 degrees. 11. Fry 3 or 4 lumpia at a time. 12. Fry for about 3 or 4 minutes, turning once. 13. Lumpia are cooked through when they float, and the wrapper is golden brown. 14. Cut in half, or serve as is or with dipping sauce. 15. I prefer sweet and sour sauce, but soy sauce with lemon is also excellent. |
