LIGHT AS A FEATHER CAKE This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Boyd Estate in Dallas, Texas in 1987. Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening |
1/2 cup boiling water |
1/2 cup brown sugar |
1/2 cup molasses |
1 egg beaten |
1-1/2 cups flour |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 cup baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon |
3/4 teaspoon ginger |
Directions:
1. Put shortening in a bowl and pour in boiling water then add sugar, molasses and egg. 2. Stir flour, baking powder, baking soda and spices together. 3. Add to shortening mixture and beat until mixed well. 4. Batter will be thin. 5. Pour into greased 8 inch pan. 6. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. |
