Very old recipe; has overnight chill time. Ingredients:
3/4 cup shortening, soft |
1 cup brown sugar, packed |
1 egg |
1/4 cup molasses |
2 1/4 cups flour |
2 teaspoons baking soda |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon clove |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1 teaspoon ginger |
1/4 cup sugar |
Directions:
1. Cream shortening and brown sugar together. 2. Add egg. 3. Add molasses. 4. Sift flour, baking soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon and ginger together; add to creamed mixture. 5. Chill dough overnight. 6. Roll in balls the size of a walnut. 7. Roll on sugar. 8. Place on pan; put 3 drops of water on each ball. 9. Bake just until set, but not hard, at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes. |
