LEMON GLAZED DATE STICKS This is a recipe I obtained from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Olsen Estate in Grand Prairie, Texas in 1982. Ingredients:
1/2 cup all purpose flour |
1/2 teaspoon baking powder |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1 egg |
1/3 cup granulated sugar |
1 tablespoon melted butter cooled |
8 ounce package chopped dates |
1/4 cup chopped walnuts |
glaze |
1 tablespoon milk |
1 tablespoon butter |
1 cup confectioners' sugar |
1 teaspoon lemon juice |
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind |
Directions:
1. Sift flour with baking powder and salt then set aside. 2. Beat egg and add sugar slowly then blend in 1 tablespoon butter. 3. Stir in dates and nuts then gradually add flour mixture and mix well. 4. Pour into greased square pan then spread evenly and bake at 325 for 30 minutes. 5. Cool in pan on wire rack then spread top with glaze and cut into 24 sticks. 6. To make glaze combine milk, butter, confectioners' sugar, lemon juice and lemon rind. 7. Heat over low heat until well blended then cool slightly before pouring over cookies. |
