This bread is delicious toasted and buttered. Also makes a wonderful gift..Got this recipe from cooking class a long time ago... Ingredients:
1 c sugar |
5 tb butter |
2 eggs |
1/2 c milk |
1/2 tsp salt |
1-1/2 c flour |
1 tsp baking powder |
rind of 1 lemon,grated |
1/2 c pistachios or walnuts |
glaze |
juice of 1 lemon |
1/3 c sugar |
Directions:
1. Cream butter or margarine and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs. Add milk,mix well. Sift dry ingredients together,add to batterand beat till smooth. Add lemon rind and nuts. 2. Pour into greased 9x5 loaf pan and bake at 325' for 45 to 50 mins. 3. Glaze: 4. While bread is baking ,mix lemon juice and sugar till sugar dissolves. Spoon glaze over hot bread before removing from pan. Continue till bread absorbs the glaze. Cool before removing from pan. |
