LEMON BREAD This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Fischer Estate in Crandall, Texas in 1987. Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter |
1 cup granulated sugar |
2 eggs slightly beaten |
1-1/2 cups all purpose flour |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 cup milk |
1/2 cup chopped nuts |
peel of 1 lemon grated |
glaze |
1/4 cup powdered sugar |
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350. 2. Cream butter and sugar then add eggs and mix until combined. 3. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. 4. Alternately add flour mixture and milk to butter mixture stirring constantly. 5. Add nuts and lemon peel then combine and pour into greased loaf pan and bake 1 hour. 6. Combine sugar and lemon juice then poke holes in top of bread and pour glaze over top. |
