I had this bread at a restaurant a couple of years ago. I never tasted anything like it. It was served with salad and can be served with omelets. From, How Many Potatoes in a Pound? Ingredients:
3/4 c shortening |
2 c sugar (can be reduced) |
2 tsp. baking powder |
4 eggs |
1 tsp. salt |
1 c milk |
3 c flour |
1 c chopped walnuts |
grated rind of 2 lemons |
for glaze |
juice of 2 lemons |
1 c sugar (can be reduced) |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. Combine all ingredients. 3. Pour batter into 2 large loaf pans. 4. Bake for 1 hour. 5. Remove pan to rack to cool. 6. Glaze with juice of 2 lemons mixed with 1 cup sugar. 7. Keeps 2 to 3 weeks refrigerated. |
