I love iced tea but am far too lazy to chop up lemons, oranges and other fruit, so I came up with this lazy persons version! I think this is really refreshing. I use slimline bitter lemon and don't add anything to sweeten it (I don't think it needs it, but that's just my opinion) so it's really low-cal. You can play around with it as much as you like though. I don't like the tea taste to be overpowering so I go easy on the tea bags, but you can adjust the measurements to your liking. NB. I've had a bit of a battle with the ingredients list on this one. In the UK we have a soda drink called bitter lemon, but that doesn't seem to exist on the 'Zaar database so I'm guessing there's no such thing in the US. I've had a look through some other recipes and although there is a bitter lemon recipe on here (26863), it sounds to me as though any home-made lemonade with a bit of tartness to it will work. Otherwise, maybe a regular lemonade with a drop of bitters would work? Sort of takes the easiness out of it though, sorry!
Ingredients:
2 earl gray tea bags
500 ml boiling water
500 ml orange juice (preferably with bits)
500 ml tart lemonade (i use slimline)
5 mint sprigs (to garnish) (optional)
Directions:
1. Stew the tea bags in the boiling water. I only stew them for a minute or so as I don't like my tea too strong, but you can stew them to taste.
2. Leave to cool.
3. Add the orange juice.
4. Add the bitter lemon (it will fizz up a lot initially and this pretty much knocks all the fizz out of it leaving you with a fizz-free iced tea).
5. Add the mint sprigs (if you can be bothered) and lots of ice.
6. Serve!
