Layered Strawberry Cake

This is a very nice, summery recipe that hits the spot after a famly meal.
Ingredients:
1 pkg. butter recipe golden cake mix
2/3 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup butter, softened
3 large eggs
1/2 cup strawberry preserves, divided
2 cups whipping cream
3 tbsp. powdered sugar
2 qts. fresh strawberries, sliced
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Beat first 4 ingredients at low speed until cake is moistened.
3. Beat at med. speed 4 minutes.
4. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9 round cake pans.
5. Bake at 350 degrees for 18-20 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
6. Cool on wire rack 10 minutes; remove from pans.
7. Brush tops of each layer with 2 Tbsp. Strawberry Preserves.
8. Cool completely on wire racks.
9. Beat remaining preserves with whipping cream and powdered sugar at high speed until stiff peaks form.
10. Place 1 cake layer on a serving platter.
11. Arrange 1/2 of strawberries over layer; top with 1/2 whipped cream mixture.
12. Repeat procedure with remaining layer, strawberries and whipped cream mixture.
13. Garnish with extra strawberries.
