an old recipe from my great-grandmother Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening |
1 cup sugar |
1 cup water |
1 cup raisins |
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon clove |
1 3/4 cups flour |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 cup nuts |
Directions:
1. Combine shortening, sugar, water, raisins, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves and bring to a boil. let cool. 2. combine flour, baking soda, and nuts. add to liquid mixture. 3. Bake at 350 degrees in a greased and floured loaf pan, 50 minutes-1 hour. 4. for a 9x13 pan, double the recipe. |
