This is a great hamburger soup recipe with a nice history. Every year the church in Pemberton Heights puts on the Kris Kringle Krafts Fair. The community makes the soup that the church sells and that's where they get a lot of there operating money. Read more . Everyone gets the same recipe and brings it in in the morning and forthey sell it for $1 a bowl. :-) Ingredients:
1 1/2 lb of ground beef (i use x-lean ground) |
1 1/2 cup coarsely chopped onions |
3-4 bouillon cubes |
6 cups water |
2 cups sliced carrots |
1 1/2 cup coarsely chopped celery |
1 - 1 1/2 cups barley |
1 tsp salt |
1/8 tsp pepper |
1/4 cup ketchup |
28 oz can of tomatoes or tomato sauce or pureed tomatoes |
1-2 bay leaves |
Directions:
1. Brown meat and onions in pan. 2. Add mixture and all ingredients in a large pot and simmer for 2 or more hours. |
