This is the Swedish recipe for Hard Tack bread, or Rye Crisp. Top with a butter spread or slices of cheese. Ingredients:
1/2 cup milk |
1 teaspoon sugar |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon molasses |
2/3 cup rye flour |
2/3 cup white flour |
2 tablespoons shortening |
1/2 teaspoon anise seed |
1/2 teaspoon caraway seed |
Directions:
1. Mix all ingredients together thoroughly. 2. Roll out thin on a floured board. 3. Cut into squares or rounds and prick all over closely with a fork. 4. Bake on lightly greased cookie sheets in a hot, 400 degree oven for 10 minutes or until brown. |
