Kiwifruit Sherbert

I haven't tried it yet (so the cooking and prep times are guesses) but it sounds fantastic and best of all you don't need an ice cream maker.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup sugar, divided
1/4 cup water
2 egg whites
3 -4 kiwi fruits
1 1/2 cups lemon-lime carbonated beverages
1/4 cup lime juice
Directions:
1. Combine 1/2 cup sugar and water. Bring to boil; stir until sugar dissolves. Boil, covered, over medium heat 5 minutes.
2. Beat egg whites until stiff; gradually add remaining 1/4 cup sugar.
3. Slowly pour hot syrup into whites; beat constantly until mixture has cooled.
4. Peel and purÄ—e kiwifruit to measure 3/4 cup.
5. Gradually beat lemon-lime beverage, kiwifruit purÄ—e and lime juice into egg-white mixture.
6. Freeze partially. Spoon mixture into chilled mixer bowl and beat with chilled beaters until mixture is light and foamy.
7. Return to freezer and freeze until firm.
