My mother has made these for as long as I can remember for our Christmas ham dinner . I made them one time for a picnic with friends and they joked with me that they were great beans, but were a killer due to the gassiness you might get from them. Read more . They are not that gassy , but if you have problems, a little beano will help. (sorry to be so graphic). Ingredients:
6 (15 1/2 oz.) cans pork and beans(drained) |
1 cup ketchup |
1 medium onion, chopped (i chop very finely) |
1/2 bell pepper, chopped (i save the other half in the freezer) |
1/2 cup - 3/4 cup light brown sugar |
1 pound bacon |
Directions:
1. Place the drained beans, ketchup, and brown sugar.in large sauce pan. 2. Simmer on low about 15-20 minutes. 3. Add onion and bell pepper. Simmer additional 10 minutes 4. Pour into large 13 x 9 baking dish. 5. Separate bacon and lay on top of beans until covered. 6. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 mins- 1 hour or until bacon is as crisp as you like it. |
